Dr Naomi Klarenbeek appointed Research Director Internal Medicine

On 1 January 2024, Dr Naomi Klarenbeek, who already had a leading role as CHDR’s Medical Director, was appointed as Research Director Internal Medicine.

‘For more than three decades, CHDR has conducted research in the field of internal medicine, under the supervision of Prof. Koos Burggraaf. The group continued when he became CEO, and in the past few years I have coordinated its research efforts. In response to growing demand, our Board has decided to invest in expanding the Internal Medicine group, and I have been appointed as Research Director. I’m looking forward to heading the group.'

Klarenbeek, an internist with diverse interests, anticipates conducting studies in various fields within internal medicine. One of her favourite disciplines is rheumatology: 'I did my PhD thesis on research into the early treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. In the coming years, I hope to collaborate with Dr Matthijs Moerland who heads our Immunology group and Prof. Robert Rissmann to do research concerning systemic autoimmune diseases within the field of rheumatology and gastroenterology. And there are many other interesting developments in internal medicine, for example in the field of endocrinology/metabolic diseases, nephrology and liver diseases. Our group will have plenty of opportunities to contribute to innovation in internal medicine.’
